Beginner's Guide [VatrA x Seas0n] v1.1

Preface

Hey there! I'm 'Seas0n' founder of Analytica and writer of this beginners guide. I have 4 years experience with AFK Arena, & 1 year experience with AFK Journey (PTR1) and Dislyte. I've seen Journey Alpha, Beta (PTR, Sail, Voyage) and every iteration of the game that eventually turned into the version we play today.

I am co-GM of 'Analytica' (Rank 1 S1) and all subsidiary guilds (Analytica.X, Analytica.Y, Analytica.Z, Analytica.V, Neverlytica, Wonderlytica). This is all to say that I have an extensive history with Lilith Game Mechanics and have tons of in-game experience to get you the start you need!

Battle

Currently - the main two comps occupying AFK Stage min clears are 'Odie' & 'Eironn + Arden' teams.

Odie

Odie teams focus on execution [Odie - 'Heart Crusher']. Stall out the fight with Antandra - Brutus - Smokey - Kokko and wait for Odie to build up poison stacks for execute.

Odie is a good F2P option because he is a A-Level hero and used in virtually all modes.

Arden + Eironn

The Arden + Eironn team focuses on 'Perma-CCing' (Permanently Crowd Controlling) the enemy so they cannot cast and skills or abilities. Eironn drops his 'Vortex' at the beginning of the fight, triggers Arden's 'Nature's Resilience', granting him more energy for his ultimate which further triggers 'Entangling Roots' (3s Stun).

This is generally a P2W comp for late game PvE / PvP players. Although these heroes are viable in AFK Stages, they are not very good in Dream Realm or Battle Drill.

Odie + Brutus + Antandra

The most standard early game comp centers around 'Odie' using his execute mechanics to cut through difficult immunity enemies (Brutus, Thoran). Generally, you run this comp with Odie, Brutus, Antandra, Kokko, and Smokey - 5 Maulers.

Arden + Eironn

This late game comp utilizes +10 Eironn (+3s CC) & +10 Arden (+1s CC) . It accompanies a Tank, usually Thoran (link Eironn). Carolina is the majority choice for AoE Carry, but Bryon can be a strong choice as well, providing CC for Arden's energy mechanics.

Cecia, An Alternative?

Many players will go Cecia first, which is a perfectly solid option. Cecia can be used in both 'Odie' and 'Arden + Eironn' teams as an alternate.

Generally, early game - you play what you have. Try to build the skeleton of these teams then fit Cecia into it. Otherwise, just use your highest ascended heroes and see what works - there is a lot of summon randomness so 'one size' doesn't fit all.

Artifacts & Battle Tips

Starshard +4.8 Haste, +10.2% HP

Your default artifact - use on Dream Realm, Campaign, and Battle Drill. Other Artifacts are generally better for Arena / PvP. In Battle Drill, Starshard is a large portion of the damage output.

Confining +6.6% ATK, +7.8% HP

Generally most consistent AFK Stage and PvP artifact. Good in CC comps like 'Eironn + Arden'. Also synergies with Cecia, Carolina, & stall variations.

Ironwall +6 Haste, +9 Vitality

Enlightening +7.2 ATK Spd, +11.4% HP

Awakening Spell +4.2% , +26.4% DEF

Leveling Strategies

The ‘+5 Level-Gap (5LG)'

All f2p players will follow roughly the same leveling strategy, a 5 level resonance gap strategy. Upon entering each bracket of 10 levels (i.e. 11-21, 21-31, 31-41, etc.) the player will first spend their available resources to level their main carry hero to the +5 position of the bracket, unlocking the next equipment level. They will then level their other heroes equally until they reach the same point.

Once all heroes have unlocked the new equipment level, the player will then push their main carry to the next threshold, located at the +11 position of the bracket (i.e. 21 for the bracket of 11-21) in order to unlock the new hero skill or skill upgrade. Finally they will level their remaining heroes evenly until they too complete the bracket and unlock their new skill.

+1 → +5 → +11

This is best illustrated by an example. Lets say your party consists of Cecia as your main carry, supported by Smokey, Rowan, Koko and Brutus, and you have just reached the threshold of resonance level 31. You will first spend your available resources to get Cecia to level 35, unlocking the gear level, and then spend resources evenly across the rest of your party until they meet her at 35. Then, if you have resources left over you will apply the same strategy to reach level 41, raising Cecia first then pushing your party evenly to follow.

Advanced Considerations: On EXP & Dust Capping

In early game (week 1) players will generally find that EXP is the resource capping them on leveling, i.e. is the resource in scarcity. However, once the initial joining bonuses of dust have been earned, players will spend the remainder of the game dust capped. Thus, the only caveat of the 5 level gap strategy is that when players become scarce on dust, they will be unable to consistently push past the +10 position (e.g. level 40) dust wall with one or more heroes. This results in a common scenario where they will be able to save up enough dust to push their main carry from the +10 to the +11 position, and have to wait up to several days to build up dust to push the rest of their party past the +10 position. During this time, no longer being scarce on EXP, it is advisable for players to spend all of their available EXP on heroes who can accept it, creating up to a +10 level gap between their carry and the rest of their party.

Story & Campaign

Day 1 + Week 1 Considerations

In the beginning of the game the main story should be focused only insofar as it unlocks access to the AFK Stages upon. Otherwise it is your primary directive to push AFK Stages. Since all Battle Modes are unlocked by reaching AFK Stage milestones - early game campaign should always be a secondary priority to maximizing Stage progression.

That being said, campaign is a major source of dust accumulation, and is important for total progression. After completing as many AFK Stages as possible, you should advance the main quest through as many Miasma gates as you can. While progressing through the story these are the main campaign rewards needed to continue snowballing your account progression:

Beyond earning the main campaign rewards, extraneous and time intensive content should be avoided in order to speed run your account to maximum progression. Obviously for immersion’s sake it is worth slowing down and enjoying the game rather than simply treating it as a race to the finish, but especially day 1, the payoff for a speed-running mentality is huge.

The first milestone on miasma gate advancement is unlocking access to Dark Forest 5, and the first Primal Lord - World Boss. Primal Lords, being time sensitive, are very important to reach before they are killed. Using all of your attacks each day the boss is active gives large amounts of dust and EXP, and provides a huge bonus to account progression that players too late to the required chapter will miss out on. Because of this, reaching the Lone Gaze at Dark Forest 5 should be a week 1 priority so that it can be attacked the day it opens.

In general the mentality for day 1 is to push as hard as possible when first starting the game in order to lock in significant idle rewards. So, you can kick back and collect idle rewards passively, progressing at your own pace.

Beyond Day 1

After completing AFK Stage 166, you will unlock Legend Trials (Towers). Somewhat of a blend between AFK Stages and Campaign, Towers are an additional Battle Mode important for dust acquisition. Every 10 floors of completion for each faction awards dust, and is designed so that you can complete approximately 10 floors each week with standard leveling, and you should make this your goal. Having completed the major campaign related account progression, in your free time after using all of your daily attempts on each Battle Mode, go back through the campaign and find the small chests and kill the world enemies. Once all of these rewards have been claimed, look around the map for blue or purple icons marking side quests.
